From West Funen to the South Funen Archipelago
Landjord has ten sites on Funen:
- In West Funen near Assens there are four: Baune Plads on a meadow with the forest behind it, Orelund Plads in a clearing in the forest, Sandager Plads with a view over the field, and Østervang Plads far out among the fields with a view over the fjord.
- In South Funen, Bjørnemose Plads lies in a small wood at Bjørnemose Gods, right on the water at Skårupøre Sund, and Bjerreby Plads is on Tåsinge behind a newly planted forest. Krøllegård Plads lies in the corner of the fields near Faaborg, with the neighbour's forest behind it and a small stream along the site.
- In the middle of Funen, Veflinge Plads lies between lake and meadow near Vissenbjerg, and Nordegn Plads on a small meadow by a stream near Ringe.
- In East Funen, Sømose Plads lies near Nyborg in the corner of a former field with a view over a small bog.
The South Funen Archipelago, with 55 islands and islets, became a UNESCO Global Geopark in 2024. From Bjørnemose Plads it's 4 kilometres to Svendborg, where the ferries sail to Ærø, Skarø, Drejø and Hjortø, and from Krøllegård Plads it's 11 kilometres to Faaborg, with Faaborg Museum and ferries to Lyø, Avernakø and Bjørnø. Øhavsstien, a 220-kilometre walking route around the archipelago, passes through both Faaborg and Svendborg. Egeskov Castle from 1554, which stands in the middle of a lake, is 8 kilometres from Nordegn Plads, and from Veflinge Plads it's about half an hour by car to Odense and the Hans Christian Andersen Museum.
Getting to Funen
From Zealand you drive over the Great Belt Bridge, and from Jutland over the Little Belt bridges. By car it takes 2 to 2½ hours from Copenhagen and 1½ to 2¼ hours from the German border at Frøslev.
Before you come
- The whole site is yours. Once you have booked, nobody else can book it for the same nights.
- There is a compost toilet and a fire bowl, but no electricity, showers or drinking water. Bring your own water, toilet paper and firewood.
- You can drive right up to most of the sites. Tents, roof tents, small campervans the size of a VW California, converted cars (micro-campers), hammocks and motorcycles are welcome. Caravans, trailer tents, large motorhomes and vans bigger than a VW California can't come.
- Dogs are welcome on a lead at the camp. Friends, family and children come along for free, and only the person who books needs to be a member.
- You can see when the sites are free before you join.
Questions about camping on Funen
No, not just anywhere. As in the rest of Denmark, you may only pitch a tent at campsites, on private land with the owner's permission, at Naturstyrelsen's primitive campsites and in forests where free camping is allowed. Landjord's sites are on private land, where everything has been agreed with the landowner. Read the rules for sleeping out in nature.
Bjørnemose Plads lies right on the water at Skårupøre Sund, where you're welcome to swim and fish. From Østervang Plads you can get down to the fjord along the farm track. The water is very shallow, but you're welcome to fish, and it's ideal for SUP and kayaking.
Egeskov Castle is 8 kilometres from Nordegn Plads and is open from April to October. From Veflinge Plads it's about half an hour by car to Odense and the Hans Christian Andersen Museum. Dogs are not allowed inside the Hans Christian Andersen Museum.
