Getting to Zealand
From Sweden you drive over the Øresund Bridge, from Germany by ferry from Puttgarden to Rødby or from Rostock to Gedser and on north along the motorway, and from Funen over the Great Belt Bridge. Four of the sites are about an hour from Copenhagen by car: Sølvskov, Slette, Toksværd and Adamshøj. Stensby Plads is just under an hour from the ferries at Rødby and Gedser.
Before you come
- The whole site is yours. Once you have booked, nobody else can book it for the same nights.
- There is a compost toilet and a fire bowl, but no electricity, showers or drinking water. Bring your own water, toilet paper and firewood.
- You can drive right up to most of the sites. Tents, roof tents, small campervans the size of a VW California, converted cars (micro-campers), hammocks and motorcycles are welcome. Caravans, trailer tents, large motorhomes and vans bigger than a VW California can't come.
- Dogs are welcome on a lead at the camp. Friends, family and children come along for free, and only the person who books needs to be a member.
- You can see when the sites are free before you join.
Questions about camping on Zealand
No, not just anywhere. As in the rest of Denmark, you may only pitch a tent at campsites, on private land with the owner's permission, at Naturstyrelsen's primitive campsites and in forests where free camping is allowed. Landjord's sites are on private land, where everything has been agreed with the landowner. Read the rules for sleeping out in nature.
Sølvskov Plads near Haslev, Slette Plads in Brorfelde near Holbæk, Toksværd Plads by Gisselfeld Forest and Adamshøj Plads near Ringsted are all about an hour from Copenhagen by car. Once you have booked, the whole site is yours.
Stejlepladsen lies right on the water at Stege Bugt, where you're welcome to swim and fish. It's best to bring water shoes.
Yes, there are many shelters on Zealand, and you'll find most of them on udinaturen
